The Tobacco Tax Act of 2006
More than 1 million signatures have been submitted to county registrars’ offices across the state to qualify The Tobacco Tax Act of 2006 for the November general election ballot. Sponsored by the Coalition for a Healthy California, which includes CHA, the act would increase the state's tobacco tax by $2.60 per pack of cigarettes — raising $2.1 billion annually for hospital emergency departments, nurse education, children's health insurance, physician services, smoking-related disease prevention and treatment, and tobacco control.
