What Is CHPAC?
CHA's legislative advocacy program has three components:
-
California Hospital Association Political Action Committee (CHPAC), which provides campaign financing to officeholders and candidates
who are concerned about and committed to better health care for all
Californians. The program relies on effective communication and coordination
among CHA, the Regional Associations (HCNCC, HASC and HASDIC) and
hospital representatives.
- Professional lobbyists.
- An extensive statewide grassroots advocacy network of concerned
individuals.
An independent board of directors comprised of 17
members establishes CHPAC's policies. Ron DiLuigi, vice president, advocacy/government relations/public policy, St. Joseph Health System, is the 2008 CHPAC chair; and Larry Dodds, senior vice
president, Adventist Health, is the immediate past chair.
2008 Fundraising Goal
For 2008, the CHPAC board established a
statewide goal of $1,000,000.
For information on the hospitals that met or exceeded their 2007 goals, see the latest report (pdf).
Why CHPAC?
Without financial assistance from supporters, few political candidates
can afford the cost of a campaign, which can average more than $200,000
for a seat in California's Legislature. And those costs continue to
rise. Now, more than ever, CHPAC needs your support to achieve its
2008
fund-raising goal of $1,000,000.
Your contribution sends a message to policy-makers that California's
health care community is united and provides an opportunity to positively
impact the election of candidates who recognize and support health care's
important role in society.
The debate over health care will continue at the state and national
levels. Supporting CHPAC/CHPAC-FED is one way you can be sure that California's
hospitals have a meaningful voice on critical health care issues.
We appreciate your commitment and support of CHPAC's fund-raising campaign.
